Please keep in mind that this is an absolutely no strings attached freebie - it is my way of giving thanks to God for granting me the gift of being a photographer - which I like to share with others without any expectation other than my quiet way of saying thanks to Him who gives us all the many wonderful gifts that we receive without realizing...
Enjoy...

A sunset seems to be that 'signature'. Teams from across Virginia gather together to compete in a variety of events – Bowling, Golf, Soccer, Bocce, and Roller-skating are located at venues across Virginia Beach – Princess Anne Park next to the Amphitheater is also home to some soccer games that will leave you going ‘wow’ at seeing these specially gifted and talented athletes compete at various levels of abilities. Golf is brought courtesy of the folks from the Virginia Beach National Golf Course just down Princess Anne Road from the soccer venue. This is just two of the many events going on throughout the weekend!!

With any major undertaking for a non-profit organization, help from both corporate sponsors and civic organizations are key to the success of these events. Each year, GEICO http://www.geico.com, with local television and radio stations WTKR News Channel-3 http://www.wtkr.com and their friends at radio stations 106.9 The Fox http://www.1069thefox.com and FM-99 www.fm99.com provide outstanding coverage of the events both on the air, and at the events.

Another major contributor this year are the wonderful folks at Northrop-Grumman who not only build and support the finest warships, aircraft and technical services in the world, but really do care and GIVE in the local community. www.northropgrumman.com - locally known in Hampton Roads as both a great employer, and a huge community contributor.

Each year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools www.vbschools.com literally put out the welcome mat to our visiting atheletes and their families along with our neighbors in the Hampton Roads Community. Each year, a VB high school is selected to host the turnout of teams and their families - this year is Frank W. Cox High School - home of the Falcons... As a quietly proud parent, I can speak from personal experience about Virginia Beach City Public Schools - my children have gone from K~12 here, and have done well.

Thanks to the volunteers Civic groups, notably the Knights of Columbus www.vakofc.org (Virginia State Council) or www.kofc.org (Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus) along with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers and various USN commands throughout Tidewater to name but a few, participate as volunteers in helping bring all of this stuff together. Sounds like something you’d like to be a part of? No problem – here’s how: http://www.specialolympicsva.org/View/Page/Volunteers will be more than happy to get you going in the right direction as a volunteer and/or a contributor.
These images are merely a small representation of the amount of work and fun that goes into making these events such a success for some very special people and their families. I am but one of the many volunteers from the Knights of Columbus who put in a lot of time and energy into Special Olympics. Perhaps you’d like to help too!!
Thanks for your time and support!!!

Founded in May of 1848 with 77 charter members - emphasis on open-minded fellowship that would focus on social justice and church missions was established.

Thomas U. Walter who was the archtect for the U.S. Capital Dome, was also responsible for designing the sanctuary - now listed on the National Historical Register. Currently undergoing extensive renovations, Freemason Street Baptist will emerge with even greater beauty over the next few months. I will be updating this page as each of these milestones are accomplished.

Since it's original construction, the Sanctuary remains a haven for quiet solace in seeking God's Mercy, and as a focal point for the joyful celebration of bringing God's Word to all who choose to listen.

For more information about Freemason Street Baptist Church, please visit their website: www.freemasonstreet.org. To visit in person, the church is located at 400 East Freemason Street, Norfolk VA 23510. The Outer Banks – a well-known group of barrier islands just off of the North Carolina mainland have a series of lighthouses from the northern end at Currituck, to the southern end at Cape Lookout. The two northern lighthouses, Currituck and Bodie Island; are the first in a series of images that will showcase all of these sentinels that have withstood the test of time.

I photographed these images during the annual Cherry Blossum Festival in 2007. Seeing the same 'building' in both daytime and in the evening, often brings a new perspective to "not just the same". Perhaps these images will bring some justice to the intent that I have placed here. Mt. Vernon - George Washington's home south of Washington DC... a must-see for anyone interested in George Washington.
